Introduction - Psychological Fitness for Flight: A Lifelong Journey
AeroPsyence GmbH is producing a series of thought pieces designed to move the conversation away from psychometric testing as being a "one-off recruitment hurdle" to be simply overcome, and towards a model of continuous resilience, growth and self-awareness throughout a pilot's career.
It should be noted that throughout the series, the term ‘pilot’ will be used almost as a generic term. The stresses and demands placed on cabin crew have much in common with those facing flight crew, and this series is just as applicable for our valued cabin crew mates as it is for those on the flight deck, as it is, indeed, for many ground staff and engineers.
We have chosen to use ‘pilot’ to ease readability of the pieces, but do not mean to diminish in any way the resilience required of every other person involved in making commercial aviation possible.
